Businesses still ask for the “WhatsApp green tick”, but the badge you are looking for is now a blue checkmark beside the business name. It tells customers the account really belongs to the business it claims to be. There are two routes to it, and they suit very different businesses.
Two ways to a verified badge
| Official Business Account | Meta Verified for business | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | The WhatsApp Business API (Business Platform) | The WhatsApp Business app |
| Cost | No fee from Meta for the badge | A paid monthly subscription |
| Who gets it | Well-known businesses that pass Meta's review | Businesses that verify their identity and subscribe |
| Main requirement | Business verification, plus evidence the brand is notable | Identity and business verification |
Official Business Account: the requirements
On the WhatsApp Business API, the blue checkmark comes with an Official Business Account (OBA). According to Meta's documentation, the number must meet several conditions before you can request it:
- Business verification of your Meta business portfolio is complete.
- Two-step verification is switched on for the phone number.
- The number has an approved display name that matches your brand.
- The number has been active on the platform for a minimum period (Meta specifies at least 30 days).
Meeting the conditions only lets you apply. Meta then reviews whether the business is well known — typically looking for coverage of the brand in independent news or media — and many applications are declined for that reason. Paid or promotional articles generally do not count.
How to apply through the API
- Complete business verification in Meta Business Settings with your registration documents (for an Indian business, typically GST or incorporation certificate, matching your legal name and address).
- Set a display name that follows WhatsApp's rules and get it approved.
- Switch on two-step verification for the number.
- Prepare links to independent articles about your business.
- Submit the Official Business Account request from WhatsApp Manager, or ask your provider to submit it.
Meta Verified: the subscription route
If you use the WhatsApp Business app, Meta Verified for business is a paid subscription that adds a verified badge after Meta checks your identity and business, along with extras such as account protection and support. It is available in India. It is the practical route for smaller businesses that would not pass the notability review for an Official Business Account.
Business verification first
Business verification also raises your messaging limit from 250 to 2,000 customers a day on the API. wbm.link helps you connect your number, and our team can walk you through verification and display-name approval.
