When to send it

  • A few days after a purchase or service, once the customer has had a good experience
  • When you launch or change a referral reward
  • To a label of repeat customers
  • Before a festival, when people are buying gifts and sharing tips

Tips for approval and replies

  • Send referral messages only to contacts who opted in to offers, and start with customers who are clearly happy — repeat buyers or those who gave good feedback.
  • State both rewards and the conditions plainly: who gets what, and when. Vague “exciting rewards” reads as bait.
  • Give each customer their own code as a variable; in wbm.link it can come from a custom field in your CSV import.
  • Ask for one action only — forward the message or share the code.

Is a referral message marketing?

Yes. Asking customers to refer friends in return for a reward is promotional, so it is a marketing template.

Can I message the friends my customers refer?

Only once they have given you their number and agreed to hear from you — usually by messaging you first with the referral code. A number passed on by a customer is not an opt-in.
