When to send it

  • The morning an order leaves the local delivery hub
  • When a delivery partner has been assigned and has a contact number
  • For cash-on-delivery orders, to remind the customer of the amount due
  • Before a second attempt after the first delivery failed

Tips for approval and replies

  • Send it early in the day — a message that arrives after the delivery attempt helps nobody.
  • For COD orders, state the exact amount to keep ready. It is part of the order, so it keeps the message utility.
  • Quick-reply buttons like “Not home today” let customers flag a problem in one tap, before the rider sets off.
  • Leave any delivery code or OTP out of this template. A message carrying a code is treated as authentication, not utility, and must use Meta’s fixed wording.

Is an out-for-delivery WhatsApp message utility or marketing?

Utility. It is about the customer’s own order and contains nothing promotional. Keep it that way — no “add something to your next order” — and it stays at the utility rate.

Can customers reply to change the delivery time?

They can reply or tap a quick-reply button, and the message reaches whoever handles your WhatsApp. Whether the slot can actually move depends on your courier, so only give choices you can honour.
